Genomics Facility Projects LIMSUser Guide

Genomics Facility Projects Process

  1. Initial project consultation via email (genomics-projects@cornell.edu) or in person.

  2. Project initiation by the customer in the Genomic Facility Projects LIMS ("SLIMS"). See User Guide: Initiating a Project.

  3. Additional consultation on project details via Project Conversations feature in SLIMS (if necessary).

  4. Project approval by Genomics Facility Projects staff.  The "Project Approved - Recommendations" message will contain items to be included in the quote and brief instructions on the next steps (e.g., uploading plate maps).

  5. Quote generation by Genomics Facility Projects staff. The quote will be emailed to the customer (Project Initiator and Billing Contact) for their approval. This provides an opportunity to correct any details that we have wrong.

  6. Provision of Cornell account number or, for external projects, an institutional Purchase Order (PO) by the customer. We cannot begin work on any samples until we have one of these.

  7. Plate map generation and submission of sample information by the customer. For DNA or RNA plates a gel photo (or capillary traces) of ~10% of your samples is required for plate approval. See User Guide: Submitting Sample InformationUser Guide: Nucleic Acid Quality Considerations, and User Guide: Editing Plate Templates in Excel.

  8. Plate approval by Genomics Facility Projects staff. Please do not bring or send your plate(s) to the lab until each plate has been approved by us. The "Plate Approved" SLIMS message will contain additional instructions on how to ship or deliver the plates.

  9. Shipping or delivery of plates to the Genomics Facility Projects lab.  See User Guide: Sample Preparation and Shipment.

  10. Invoice generation by Genomics Facility Projects staff. We typically issue an invoice when the pooled libraries have been submitted for sequencing. The invoice will be sent via email to the Project Initiator and Billing Contact. If paying by a Cornell account number, the invoice amount will be automatically billed (in that case the invoice is just for your records).

  11. Data release by Genomics Facility Projects staff. We will release the sequence data via the SLIMS messaging system. A download script will be provided that can be run on a linux machine (or a Mac with wget installed) to automatically download the files.
